During the American presidential election period this year, by chance I watched one of the candidates Hillary Clinton’s interview. She was asked many questions in the interview, and one of the questions was “What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?”, and she didn’t even hesitate for a second and answered “You have to decide whether you will be the lead in your own life or an extra in somebody else’s” She said her mum gave her lots of advice, and that was some of it, and the interviewer was so impressed by the answer. I had to pause the part and listen to it repeatedly, because I thought that was such a beautiful piece of advice. Since that moment, when I have to make a big decision in my life, I remember the advice and it helps me make a final decision.
이번 연도에 미국 대통령 선거 기간에 우연히 후보자 중의 한명인 힐러리 클린턴의 인터뷰를 보았어요. 힐러리는 그 인터뷰에서 많은 질문을 받았는데 그 중 하나는 “여태껏 받은 조언 중 가장 최고의 조언은?” 이라는 질문이었고, 힐러리는 일초의 망설임도 없이 대답했어요 “당신은 당신의 삶에서 주인공이 될것인지 아니면 다른 사람의 삶에서 엑스트라가 될 것인지를 결정해야 한다” 힐러리는 그녀의 어머니가 많은 조언을 주었고, 이 조언도 그것 중 하나라고 말했죠. 인터뷰진행자는 그 대답에 굉장히 인상받았어요. 전 매우 아름다운 조언이라 생각돼서 그 부분을 잠시 멈춘 뒤 계속해서 다시 들었어요. 그때 이후로, 제 삶에서 큰 결정을 해야 될때는 그 조언을 기억해서 최종 결정을 결심하는 데 그 조언이 도움을 줘요.
